Indian Super League (ISL) franchise Atletico de Kolkata are set to announce Dejan Lekic as a replacement for their injured skipper Josemi, sources in the know of things informed Goal.
Lekic, who has already agreed terms with the Sourav Ganguly co-owned outfit, is expected to join the squad later this week, given the paperworks being carried out smoothly.
The 30-year old, who has played for teams like Red Star Belgrade, Osasuna and Sporting Gijon in the past and was playing in the La Liga last season for Eibar. If the deal goes through, Lekic will be the third player from last year's Eibar squad to ply his trade for Kolkata - after Borja Fernandes and Javi Lara.
The attacker could earn only one start for the Spanish side in the league last season, but came in as a substitue on 17 other occasions. In the 2012-13 season, Lekic scored 12 goals in 36 appearances playing in the Segunda Division in Sporting Gijon colours. He is best remembered for his brace against Barcelona in February 2012, which helped Osasuna edge past Pep Guardiola's Barcelona 3-2 in a league encounter.
The signing of Lekic will also give Antonio Lopez Habas more options on the attacking front, with the team now being over reliant on Iain Hume for scoring goals. The outift had set its eyes on Dudu Omagbemi previously, but later distanced themselves from the reports as the Nigerian striker joined FC Goa.
The Red and Whites notched up an important 3-2 victory against Kerala Blasters on Tuesday evening to return to the top four. They will play Delhi Dynamos next on Saturday and the management are expecting to see marquee signing Helder Postiga on the bench for the said game.
