"I admire Van Marwijk a lot," he told
Bild. "Almost 17 million people live in Netherlands, and they all support the national team coach.
"A trainer must remain faithful to his system - we cannot forget that they were runners-up [at the 2010 World Cup] with the same system. But I think he should do some things differently.
"I do not believe that Netherlands will progress. If we lose to Germany, we will definitely be out already."
It is believed that
Van Marwijk will hand Klaas-Jan Huntelaar a start against Germany after
Robin van Persie came under criticism following his disappointing performance against Denmark, and Stevens is in favour of the change.
"In my opinion, you should start with people who are in good form," the Schalke coach continued.
"I have always said to play with Van Persie in the centre with Huntelaar at the top. You have the top scorer in England and the top scorer in Germany - you should use them."
Netherlands' showdown with Joachim Low's side on Wednesday kicks off at 20:45CET.
