Beto: Portugal will rally behind Cristiano Ronaldo

Portugal reserve goalkeeper Beto has voiced his support for Cristiano Ronaldo, claiming that the Real Madrid man will overcome his slump of form with help from his fellow countrymen.

The 27-year-old has yet to score at Euro 2012, and missed two one-on-one opportunities during Wednesday's 3-2 win against Denmark.

According to Beto, Portugal will focus not on Ronaldo, but on the collective as they move forward. And together, they will overcome the forward's slump.

"I think the most important thing is that the team has to deal with these situations," he told Goal.com. "It has to solve the problems, not one player, not two players.

"If one player wasn't playing good today, the team will help him. That's how we think, because we don't live for one player. The team is the most important thing, and I think the team will deal with this situation."

Many have touted Euro 2012 as an opportunity for Ronaldo to put himself ahead of Lionel Messi in the running for the Ballon d'Or - or to end his hopes should he flop. But despite the attacker's slow start to the tournament, Beto feels the Madrid star will earn the honour at year's end.

"I think he has the biggest chance to win this year," Beto asserted. "[Ronaldo and Messi] both scored a lot of goals this year, but [Ronaldo] is my friend, he's my colleague, and I believe he's the best. I think he'll win."

Reflecting on Wednesday's match, the goalkeeper feels that his side played the same style of football as in their 1-0 loss to Germany last Saturday, but the only difference was that this time, they scored.
