Indian national team camp shifted from Greater Noida to Bangalore

The national camp for the Nehru Cup is now to be shifted to Bangalore, and will now kickoff from 3^rdAugust. The present electricity crisis and heavy rains in Northern regions have been cited as the reasons for shifting the venue to the Bangalore Football Stadium from the Jaypee Greens Atlantis, Greater Noida.

Subhankar Mukherjee, Director of the National teams, confirmed that the camp has been shifted due to the rains. He revealed, “Not so much the  power cut, but the rains and the damage done by it (to the training turf), as the ground has become a little slushy. The team will be travelling (to Bangalore) tomorrow evening."

It is expected that after spending 15-to-16 days in Karnataka, the squad will return to Delhi. Mukherjee stated, "The idea is that they might come back on 15th or 16th and then practice the rest of the days here (Jaypee Grounds) as by then hopefully the rains will subside."

This marks the latest flip-flop regarding where Wim Koevermans would have his first look at the Indian squad, as initially the camp was set to be held in Bangalore after the Ambedkar Stadium in Delhi was ruled out due to Independence day functions being held there. However Koevermans, according to sources, wasn't in favour of training on an artificial turf.

Karnataka State Football Association (KSFA) President A.R Khaleel had at that time stated, “The AIFF cannot afford the heavy airfare expense involved in bringing the 48-odd member squad (players and support staff) to Bangalore and then taking them to New Delhi for the Nehru Cup.”
