Roma attacking midfielder Erik Lamela has expressed his belief that his team can challenge for the
Scudetto in 2012-13.
The
Giallorossi replaced Luis Enrique with Zdenek Zeman as their coach this summer, and the 20-year-old Argentine has urged his side to challenge for the league crown.
Lamela admitted that champions Juventus are the team to beat, but warned that Roma can spring a surprise as long as they remain ambitious.
“The goal of winning the Scudetto is difficult but not impossible,” the ex-River Plate man told
Il Corriere dello Sport.
“On paper, only Juventus are stronger. We should not limit our ambitions. We must fight for first place.
“It is one of my goals. I know that the
Scudetto is not easy to win. But nothing is impossible; it is difficult, but not impossible.
“I like to win. That is why I am here. Names and reputations do not matter, the important thing is to have a competitive team.”
Roma start the 2012-13 Serie A season at home to Catania.
