Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has stepped up his return to Premier League action as he continues rehabilitation from a knee injury.

The league champions have published a series of photographs on their official website that show the Argentina international in training with the club's fitness coach at Carrington training ground.

The 24-year-old, who last season won the title for the blues with a dramatic last minute goal against QPR on the final day, has been out of action since August 19 when he sustained the injury in the 3-2 win over Southampton.

"Whether [the league match on Saturday away against] Stoke is too soon for a return or not remains to be seen," read a statement on the club's official website.

City had expressed their optimism that the player would be fit by mid-September following scans on his knee and the pictures, which show Aguero taking part in stretching and running exercises.
