The Uruguayan coach steps down after watching the last-place Liga MX club lose three straight matchesUruguayan coach Carlos Maria Morales resigned Tuesday from the San Luis hotseat, with the club sitting in last place in the Liga MX and the prospect of relegation growing ever bigger.

“Tanque” Morales only coached the team for three games, but Pachuca, Jaguares and Tigres all defeated the Reales and he decided the best thing to do was step aside.

“I was wrong in not going out looking for a result that would’ve given confidence to the player,” Morales told radio program Super Gol. “I saw the atmosphere remained the same.”

Gerardo Silva will take over as the interim coach of the side that has only two points from ten Liga MX matches this season and has slipped into the relegation dogfight.

San Luis started the season a full 18 points ahead of both Atlas and Queretaro in the relegation table, but is now just six points in front of Queretaro and three points behind Atlas.

The Reales face a difficult trip to Queretaro on April 20 that could be critical in the relegation struggle.

Young coach Eduardo Fentanes was given the job of coaching San Luis during the preseason and there was a sense of hope around the Estadio Alfonso Lastras that his innovative techniques would propel the unfashionable club up the league table.
