Mexico and Peru announce rosters for friendly in San Francisco

Jose Manuel de la Torre called in a domestic-based squad for an April friendly against Peru, with Pablo Barrera earning a recall. Mexico named a 20-man roster for the friendly against Peru in San Francisco's Candlestick Park on April 17.

As the friendly doesn't fall on a FIFA international date, the squad contains only domestic-based players. It blends several first-team regulars with others on the periphery of recent World Cup qualifying rosters.

Cruz Azul, which won its first trophy in 15 years on Wednesday by claiming the Copa MX, leads the way with four players. Club America also provided four players, and Tigres contributed three.

Jose Manuel 'Chepo' de la Torre did not call any players from Santos Laguna or Monterrey, with the CONCACAF Champions League final coming so soon after the friendly. The first leg is on April 24. El Tri regular Carlos Salcido was also left off the roster.

Pablo Barrera, formerly a key member of De la Torre's starting XI, returns to El Tri for the first time since August 2012. Injury and adjustment after his move to Cruz Azul dented Barrera's claim to the starting right wing spot in the past year.

After Peru, Mexico is next in action against Nigeria on May 31 in Houston, before resuming CONCACAF World Cup qualifying.

Peru coach Sergio Markarían named several foreign-based players in his roster, but kept a largely domestic contingent. Peru is seventh out of nine teams in CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying with six games remaining.
