The Argentine club wore kits adorned with the face of Francis I for its win over Colon, breaking FIFA regulations in the process.San Lorenzo has risked the wrath of the Argentine Football Association (AFA) after putting a picture of the new Pope, Francis I, on its shirt for its 1-0 win over Colon.

FIFA rules forbid clubs from having any political or religious comment on playing equipment, which encompasses shirts.

But the club went ahead and left the photo of the new Pope smiling and waving above on its kit for the game on Saturday, which featured its own bit of 'divine intervention' when Ruben Ramirez headed into his own net to give the visitor the victory.

The Holy Father, whose name prior to being elected as the new leader of the Catholic Church on Wednesday went by the name of Jorge Mario Bergoglio, is from Buenos Aires in Argentina and is a longtime fan of San Lorenzo.

Pope Francis joins the Hollywood actor Viggo Mortensen among the legion of famous fans of San Lorenzo, which is coincidentally nicknamed the Saints.
