Despite being zoned in a tough group, the midfield whiz is adamant the Super Eagles will make a positive at the football showpiece

MVV Maastricht midfielder Kelechi Nwakali believes that Nigeria have the potential of doing well at the 2018 Fifa World Cup.

The Super Eagles will be making their sixth appearance and they will be hoping to go past the Round of 16 - the country's best ever finish ever (1994,1998 and 2014).

Drawn alongside Argentina, Croatia and Iceland in Group D, Gernot Rohr’s men will have their work cut out come June.

And the former Nigeria U20 captain, who boasts of four goals from 16 games in the Dutch Jupiler league this term is confident the three-time African kings will not be disgraced and will get some positive results in Russia.

"We will not be among the teams that would make up the numbers at the World Cup instead be among the teams that will make it interesting because we have all it takes,” Nwakali told Goal.

With Rohr announcing his 30-man preliminary squad for the global football showpiece, all invited players are expected to assemble in Uyo on May 21 to commence preparations.

Nigeria begin their 2018 Fifa World Cup campaign against Croatia on June 16 at the Kaliningrad Stadium before facing Iceland (June 22) and Argentina (June 26) in Volgograd and Saint Petersburg respectively.
